Success:What is it?

Success Stories:
What does “success” really mean?
As I was writing this ezine I got stuck when I thought about whose success story I would share with you. I began thinking about what success really means. In my mind it’s a subjective idea or concept, but more often it is very objective. In fact most of society looks at success through the lens of objectivity (measurement of attained goals). Webster defines success as:
1 : favorable or desired outcome
2 : the gaining of wealth and fame
3 : one that succeeds

While outward measurable success is important; success can feel unfulfilling. You can accomplish all the important goals you want, but unless there is fulfillment and meaning to them, they’re empty.

So, let me challenge you to think about success from a different perspective. What if, “success means living the life of the heart”. Francis Ford Coppola, film director thinks it’s important to define success as such.

"People are looking for ways to having a fulfilling life. So they look at what they have, what they want, and see a gap. Then, they look for things to fill that gap. As long as you are looking to fill the gap to have fulfillment, you are likely to only be temporarily filled, yearning for more and more."

People really want more satisfying, fulfilling and significant lives. I would love to hear your version of success and fulfillment. Please make your important comments!
